Agree a small purpose for each drive

Ask the instructor which skills are ready for practice. Choose familiar, manageable conditions first, then increase complexity as your skills develop.

Agree simple directions, a calm way to ask for help and when to stop. Practising beyond your current ability can reinforce poor habits or create unnecessary stress.

Review the drive together

Record duration, conditions, the skill you practised and one useful next step. The practice log belongs to the learner and stays private. It is not an official NI training logbook.

  • Plan the route and a suitable stopping place.
  • Check fuel or charge before starting.
  • Avoid practising a memorised “test route”.
