Check the official vehicle requirements
The car must satisfy the relevant test authority’s rules. Confirm tax, MOT where required, insurance covering the test, roadworthiness and any restrictions on the model or body type.
Your test booking does not make an otherwise unsuitable car acceptable. Northern Ireland guidance must be checked separately from the DVSA checklist.
Agree test-day use with the owner
If using an instructor or hire car, confirm the booking, supervision conditions, insurance and what the fee includes. Some providers require an assessment or a minimum amount of prior tuition.
Check how the car will get home after the test. Learner cover may stop or change when you pass, so do not assume you can drive away on the same policy.
Do a final check
Follow the official list for mirrors, learner plates, tyres, warning lights, clean windows and any recall evidence. Our checklist records preparation but does not certify the vehicle.
