Look for consistent independent driving
Readiness means making safe decisions without routine prompts, not just completing one good lesson. Review observation, planning, control, junctions, vulnerable road users and independent driving with your instructor.
The readiness checklist helps structure that conversation. It is not an official assessment, and ticking every box does not certify that you will pass.
Use a realistic mock test
A useful mock introduces unfamiliar instructions and evaluates how you respond to normal driving demands. Ask for specific feedback, including any intervention and the circumstances behind it.
Allow time to work on patterns that appear in the feedback. Repeating a single route until it feels familiar is not a substitute for transferable driving skills.
Make the practical arrangements early
Confirm the car, instructor, location and required documents. If your preparation is not where it needs to be, discuss the official change or cancellation options before the deadline.
